Telephone Tree Tuesday #12

We had a fun-filled week :)
The kids were trying to get the nerf gun dart off the ceiling.

Rolo McFlurry - the BEST thing EVARRRR!

"Look, Mom! A clue, a clue, a clue!!!"

You can't really tell by the picture, but there is a squirrel sitting on the little bike backpack. He was scavenging.
We went to see Cars 2 last night at the drive-in, it was great!
video

Waiting for it to get darker.

Their first movie outing :) Also, when did I use a cloning machine? Cami looks just like me in this picture.

TROPICAL SKITTLES! You can't find them anywhere up here. BTW...$7 to get in, $7.62 for 2 bags of skittles, 2 fruit punches and medium size popcorn. The drive-in ROCKS!

He loved it :) The picture is super dark...but yeah :)

My lazy kitty.

Fried egg sandwich at 2am. No, totally not joking.

My Toms got here yesterday!!
Also..proud Mommy moment: Matthew saw me typing my weekly menu plan for my food blog and he goes "I see pizza" - I thought maybe an ad or something shaped like pizza was up. But no...he had no idea what I was doing (that it had anything to do with food), no ads, no pictures. He pointed to the word and said "Right there, Mom" - I was blown away. We don't eat too much pizza and he's never in the kitchen when I make it so I doubt he sees it on the box. I'm just so surprised.

Vent: Every time I run my a/c in the living room, my power in the living room goes out at random. GRRR.

Waiting to hear back...

My husband contacted a charity that helps soldiers bring animals from overseas back to the US. There is a momma kitty (who has been vaccinated - a former ITT guy spent $600 to get vaccinations sent to him) and her kittens. He has been told they will be euthanized unless he can get them out of there. :((

We've heard rumor that it is $3500 per animal to get back to the US. We're hoping it's not that much. But we will try everything in our power to keep them from being put down!

**Small Update - 6.27.2011**
My husband and a couple of guys moved the cats to try and buy them some more time. They were worried before chow because they didn't see them and thought they had scared them, but after chow, Momma was rallying up one of her kittens and trying to keep them in the new spot. Almost as if she knows what is going on. My husband is waiting on word back from Nowzad and we will work from there. It's funny to me because my husband claims he isn't a cat guy and now even before he gets the dog that he really wants, we might end up with 3 more cats. He always talks about how we won't get any more. hehe. I love how very proactive he is right now about making sure these kitties don't get euthanized for simply being there. He is also worried that we might not be able to save all 3 and he doesn't want to have to choose. He likes Momma a lot but he knows if we get Momma, the kittens are doomed.

A Reliable Wife [Review]

A Reliable Wife

Stats:
291 pages
Published 7 Apr 2009
Synopsis:

"Abandoning her worldly life, traveling to a remote Wisconsin town in the dead of winter, trusting her future to a man she had never met - such was Catherine Land's new beginning. But there was an ending in sight as well, an ending that would redeem the treachery ahead, justify the sacrifice, and allow her to start over yet again. That was her plan." "For Ralph Truitt, the wealthy businessman who had advertised for "a reliable wife," this was also to be a new beginning. Years of solitude, denial, and remorse would be erased, and Catherine Land, whoever she might be, would be the vessel of his desires, the keeper of his secrets, the means to recover what was lost. That was his plan." Set just after the turn of the twentieth century, A Reliable Wife is the story of these two people, each plagued by a heart filled with anger and guilt, each with a destiny in mind. But neither anticipates what develops between them - the pent-up longings that Catherine discovers in this enigmatic man and the depth of her own emotional response; the joy Ralph experiences in giving Catherine the luxuries she has never known, his growing need for her, and a desire that he thought was long buried

My Thoughts:
This was the June Book for the Clamhouse Book Club. I always feel so snooty and mean when I read books that I don't like. Especially when other people enjoy them.

This book was too wordy. It spent too much time describing such boring mundane things that were not that important or relevant to the story. In Part 2, the first chapter is all about Catherine buying clothes.

The plot as a whole was crazy: a huge soap opera. It wasn't a bad storyline, just insanely out there.

Dish On Your DVR #3

Sunday:
Next Food Network Star: I really liked Jyll, Orchid and Whitney. Jyll totally killed the candy challenge! They broke up in two teams to cook desserts for 150 people. Jyll picked all the girls but Penny. The girls were on Duff's team, the guys plus Penny were on Robert Irvine's team. Chris played his little frat boy leader of the pack get-up and Robert Irvine demoted him as leader. I knew that they should not have let Alecia with the cupcakes. I knew that was an accident waiting to happen. Jyll, Orchid and Whitney did really well on their individual desserts. Nearly everything else bombed. On the other team, Vic did well with his tequila lime cream puffs and ancho chili chocolate sauce. Justin (with the glasses) and Penny also did okay. I love how Bobby Flay said that he liked Penny. If only he knew. The girls team lost. The bottom 3 were Suzy, Mary Beth and Alecia. And thank goodness that ball of crazy Alecia went home. I don't know if I could take much more of her!

Mob Wives: I can't imagine letting my child think that their dad was at work when he was actually in jail. I also can't imagine standing by a criminal. Those poor children. I always want to like Drita and Carla, but end up not liking them. Renee is kind of weird in a work setting, like fake. I like Karen though.

Ice Loves Coco: I love her OCDness. It cracks me up. I loved Ice's speech too! The "joke" was really funny and I liked how he tied it in.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians: I want to like Kim. I really just don't. I really really don't. Kendall is so pretty and I think she'll have a long career as a model. I agree with Bruce though - she should not be pushed. She is only 15.

Monday:
The Talk: Gene Simmons was on and I would have to say...I don't like him. Hearing what he said about the Osbourne's was atrocious. He sat there his whole interview bragging about how smart and well-off his kids were. I don't believe his "apology" and it was very backhanded when he gave it anyways. What a ridiculous excuse of a man.

Secret Life:
I must have missed the end of the last episode. Apparently Ben & Mr. Bocavich said that they both didn't want to be married anymore. Ashley's road trip storyline is so lame! Jack moved into the house so Tom's girlfriend and kids could move into the guest house. Grace seems a little upset by this. Ben & Ricky talk again. Ben blames Amy for telling Adrienne about her and Ricky moving in together and rubbing it in her face. That's the most obnoxious thing ever. Ben does a lot of blaming. Ricky points out it's because he wants out of the relationship. Ben says that Ricky won't be able to resist such a broken Adrienne and not sleeping with her and I can't remember exactly what Ricky said back in rebuttal. They both "know each other too well" - lame! So Ricky basically catches Amy in a lie. But he doesn't get mad at her and then they have sex. Betty visits Adrienne and I thought that by calling her fat and ugly, Adrienne would kick her face in, but it "helped" which I still really don't get. This show is so dumb sometimes. LOL. I keep thinking George and Anne are gonna get back together. Anne and her bf are no longer together.

Switched at Birth:
There is something mysterious about Bay's dad. No one likes to talk about him leaving when Daphne was little. Kathryn gets Regina a job at her salon. Neighbors and friends of the Kennish family begin to get suspicious and nosy about the situation. Kathryn wants everyone to lie but at the end of the episode she comes clean and her friend she confesses to was nice about it. She joked that she thought Regina was John's mistress and Daphne was a love child. So hearing the truth was better than what was actually going around (like Regina told Kathryn in the first place). This episode had a lot of basketball in it as well. John pushes Daphne with basketball. Ohhh and Marlee Matlin was in this episode!!! I love her! :) She was the deaf school counselor that covered for basketball coach and a close friend of Regina's. I also watched her Friday night on a rerun of Blue's Clues as the librarian!!

Tuesday:
16 & Pregnant: Allie! I thought her and her bf were going to make it despite his crazy pill-popping abusive mom. However, it turns how he was just a loser who was jealous of his new baby Aydenn. I'm appalled at the lengths filming has gone without MTV stepping in. I also was confused at her text to her mom right after Aydenn was born - about circumcision. I thought they waited and did that right before they discharged the baby and mom?? And why would that be included? So strange. Anyways..I cannot believe how the dude didn't help her through labor, his grandma (who I liked a lot) did. I hope that girl moves back with her mom. That seems like the best idea.

Wednesday:
So You Think You Can Dance: The couples shared secrets about their partners! So I'm gonna break down the couples with secrets and performances! Debbie Reynolds was the guest judge and she was great! She even did a Woody Woodpecker impersonation - it was hilarious. I loved Kat's yellow dress :)
  1. Ryan and Ricky: Ryan's leg hair grows really fast and Ricky's real name is Roderick. They performed a sexy jazz piece by Mandy Moore. I'm not gonna lie...Ryan's faces made it awkward, but if you blocked out her face, it was sexy. LOL
  2. Caitlyn and Mitchell: Caitlyn's boots turn her feet blue and nasty and Mitchell wears his zebra print Snuggie or as he says Snoogie all the time. They danced a Stacey Tookey piece (I believe contemporary). It was beautiful. They danced to Adele's "Turning Tables" and it was about a poisonous controlling complex relationship. Mitchell played a jerk. Very very good. Apparently Mitchell accidentally punched her in the face during the dance. bahahaha! This was my very favorite performance tonight.
  3. Missy and Wadi: Wadi uses Nair on his chest hair. Missy has a choppy laughter. Like she stops to breathe. Cha-cha piece by Jean-Marc Generaux to "Cannibal" by Kesha - which made me want to gauge my eyes out. Wadi wasn't too bad for a b-boy doing cha-cha! You could tell he wasn't experienced but it didn't look like he was doing it really badly. The judges kind of laid into him for it, but seriously, for a b-boy..it really wasn't slaughtered.
  4. Iveta and Nick: Iveta talks to herself in the mirror and Nick always wears shorts. Nakul Dev Mahajan Bollywood routine!!! Yeeahhh! The music in the beginning was awful! It was a little shaky, but it's Bollywood in the 2nd week for a ballroom dancer and a tap dancer. Phew. I would NOT be able to do that. Sheeeeesh!
  5. Miranda and Robert: Robert thinks he's a pro-wrestler and Miranda has a crush on Tadd. Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo hip-hop routine about a woodpecker. hahaha. They said it was a really intricate routine. They danced to Busta Rhyme's "Break Ya Neck" - it was really good. But poor Miranda didn't quite get her flip and it threw her off a little bit. Very slightly, but she looked apologetically off at Tabitha and Napoleon afterwards - awee :(
  6. Jess and Clarice: Clarice sleeps with her eyes open and Jess draws stick figure orchestras. Stacey Tookey contemporary piece about love. He's a prince and she is marrying him. He is hard to watch....especially with the lifts. He's too choppy and Broadway-ish even in the extended, long-lined contemporary.
  7. Jordan and Tadd: Jordan is kind of gullible/naive and Tadd has OCD. Viennese Waltz with Jean Marc Generaux. I'm not sure what to think. It was very whimsical, but I don't know how Jordan did on the technicality. Oh..never mind...I guess Nigel said it was great. I didn't realize Tadd was a b-boy too. Wow. That's impressive. Completely impressive!
  8. Melanie and Marco: Melanie can't stand people touching her ears and Marco reads romance novels. A jazz piece by Mandy Moore. It was old-timey but modern breakdown and with little bowler hats. It was great. It was so charismatic and energetic and fun! This was my second favorite routine! Melanie has those legs! Shoo!
  9. Sasha and Alexander: Sasha is sweaty like a guy and Alexander loves to look at himself in the mirror. Kat called them Nappy Tabs. Napoleon and Tabitha hip-hop routine about a soldier coming home from deployment in Afghanistan and seeing his wife for the first time. I'm gonna cry. Watch me. Durn the deployment hormones. Mmm...okay. Not really too emotional. If it was different music and not so harsh dancing, I might have cried. Okay, scratch that...Mary made me cry. But I disagree that they showed the passion and emotion of homecoming. I don't think you can capture that unless you've personally been through it. Either the soldier coming home or welcoming your soldier.
  10. Chris and Ashley: Chris has a nervous smile that is creepy and Ashley thinks she has swag, but she doesn't. Broadway routine with Spencer Liff - sexual tension again...Ashley is visiting Chris, who is in jail. They dance separated by bars. It was a good routine, but I don't think it was anything spectacular.
Hot in Cleveland: Victoria writes to a convict using Joy's name and picture. He is a violent person (something about chopping up body parts) and is now on parole. Joy's son comes to find her. First he calls, but hangs up. Then he comes in the night and startles everyone. Elka comes out into the living room with a gun, but Joy makes fun of her and while telling her she is getting an alarm system set up the next day (they are all thinking the call and noise is the convict). She takes the gun from Elka and tosses it on the couch where it goes off and hits a guy outside through the front window. Upon finding Joy's son on the front porch, Joy panics and says that Melanie is Joy. They all start putting on a charade. Joy starts off with a low accent and drawl (I assume imitating Melanie) and Melanie pulls off an awful English accent and Victoria makes up a character who is "Joy's" stepmother, Lady Winchester. Joy comes clean as the paramedics arrive. The next day, the doorbell rings...Melanie assumes it's the alarm system guy and Victoria lets the convict (Gary - played by the same actor ) in. Melanie hears on her voicemail that the alarm system guy won't be over today. Joy's son decides that things aren't going to work out and that it's the end of their relationship. Joy gets home and asks if Gary is crying and Elka answers with the best line of the episode "Like Brett Favre retiring for the 10th time" - Victoria gives Gary Susan Lucci's number. Joy runs back to the hospital to talk to her son and they resolve somewhat and will try and get to know each other.

Happily Divorced: Fran ends up calling Elliot Peter (her ex-hd's name) while making out and then when they make up, Peter comes in drunk and they end up making a Peter spooning sandwich. This is the end of Fran and Elliot.

Thursday:
So You Think You Can Dance: Bottom three couples were: Wadi & Missy, Iveta & Nick and Ryan & Ricky. Rage performed and so did LMFAO. I really like the LMFAO diddy. Wadi, Missy, Iveta and Nick ended up going home. I really liked Missy so it was kind of a bummer to see her go home. She reminds me of my friend Amanda.

Friday:
My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding: The discrimination against travellers makes me sad. I still wish it weren't so mysterious. I would like to learn more than they are showing about the culture. I will say this...I can't imagine being so submissive to my husband. It's almost crazy because all the women seem so strong-willed and independent, I wouldn't think they would be so submissive to a man.

Upcoming Shows:
True Blood - HBO Sunday 9pm (starts June 26)
Ugly Americans - Comedy Central Thursday (starts June 30)
Teen Mom - MTV Tuesday (starts July 5)
Fringe - Fox Friday (starts Sept 23)

(P.S. I keep a draft post open all week and jot down thoughts either while I watch or after I watch the shows)

MFF #46

Are you a different person than you were five years ago? submitted by Sisterly Thoughts
Absolutely! 5 years ago, I was about to find out I was pregnant with Matthew at age 17. Nick and I had a really poisonous relationship at the time. I don't think either of us were happy and we were struggling. The pregnancy was like a band-aid. It slowly helped us to realize how much we loved each other and helped us to fix what was wrong.

If you could go on Amazing Race, who would you take with you as your partner and why? submitted by Thoughts from a Poekitten
My husband without a doubt! We would slaughter the competition. Nick would be really good at it. He's always supportive and c'mon...he's in the military! He's great at navigating and problem-solving!

Does Facebook or Twitter actually bring more stress or good in to your life? submitted by Just an Arizona Girl
I don't really use Twitter that much, but I would have to say over the last 2 years, I think Facebook cause me more stress. Some people don't realize that as an adult, you are supposed to act like one. Facebook is like glorified high school.

June is National Soul Food Month- what’s your soul food? submitted by NH Girl Displaced
Uhm...I love me some food. Any food really. I would have to say my soul food is chocolate...perhaps chocolate cake.
If you could live in any other era than the current, which one would it be & why? submitted by Sugar in My Grits
I would say...upper class or royalty in the 1400s or 1500s in Europe OR living in America in the late 1800s. I've always been drawn to the 1400-1500 time period. I love all the things that were going on during this time period. The Renaissance-Age of Discovery Era. I loved the Little House on the Prairie series..so I would want to live a little before then and be self-sustaining on a farm or traveling to California on the Oregon Trail!!

 Have a great weekend everyone!!

Telephone Tree Tuesday #11

I'm sorry, but my cat is the most adorable cat ever!!!

Playing in their new pool :)

Cheesesteak midnight snack.

I helped with the C and m, but Cami did the others :)

She wrote I love you for her Father's Day card to Nick. :)

It took some convincing to get Matthew to write it.

He drew Nick some clowns willingly though.

What I did yesterday - finished planting my stuff.

Tomatoes, raspberries, blackberries, cucumbers, basil, oregano, jalapenos, green beans, and peas.

I moved my bamboo plant out too. I need to use the fire pit at some point.

Sunday, June 19, 2011

8 months.

67% of the deployment is done! DONE! I can make it through this, yet!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Find stuff to do in the surrounding area that we haven't done before. EXPLORE. I'm going to ask my friend what beach she used to visit when she was here. Next Sunday, I'm determined to have a picnic at Remington Park with the kids (weather-permitting). I want to go to the Thompson Park Zoo, Syracuse Zoo and Old McDonald's Farm. Also hopefully gonna take the kids to the community center's splash park.

2. Regularly exercise. Tomorrow, no excuses, I will be trying "Boost Your Metabolism"

3. Drink more water. No soda. Been doing pretty good on drinking water since I got home. I've hardly been drinking anything and it's really taking a toll on my body. My newest habit is to always have a bottle of water next to me. I want to drink at least 1/2 a bottle before bed, 1/2 a bottle when I wake up and at least 2 per day. That's hardly any at all, but it's much more than I'm drinking currently.

4. KEEP my cleaning schedule. I'm still sucking at this. LOL.

5. Find a place to get rid of the junk in the garage [the broken appliances]. Set up a bulk pickup date with community center, also find out what I can get rid of.

6. Read 100 books and watch all the movies I have. Watched a lot of movies lately. I watched I Am Number Four last night. Very good movie!

7. Try to make the best out of the life in Ft. Drum. Not concerned anymore since we are LEAVING!

8. Pick up a hobby and STICK to it. I've been crocheting a lot lately :)

9. Be more patient with the kids. I'm still struggling here.

10. Finish my associate's degree. After the douchewipes told me I was done, I found out I still need to take a math class. *eye twitch* Currently enrolled and will be done in August.

11. Stop cursing so much. Modifying this: cursing less while frustrated or mad.

12. Take the car for regular car washes and vacuum at least once a month. Start washing at home!

13. Make a recipe bucket list. I want to make a 100 in 1001 list for my food blog. Need to do this soon!

14. Start the garden indoors and transfer outdoors after Mother's Day.

15. Start to get rid of the baby stuff in the basement.Go through and see what I can give to my friend Amber, Craigslist everything else

16. Make a 100 in 1001 list. Do it!!!!!

17. Write up a new budget. Keep better track of money. I completely forgot about this goal. It is ten times more important because we'll need to save up money for moving.

18. Become a couponing queen. I'm finding it difficult to find a lot of useful coupons.

19. Get everything fixed in the house - the kids' tub, the garbage disposal, the light under the cabinet, my tub's drain, the fence... I really need to call maintenance.

Dish On Your DVR (2)

Sunday:

Next Food Network Star: Juba and Katy went home. I wasn't surprised really. I think that Chris, Alicia and Justin are on their way out soon. I still think Penny is a catty bitch and I really don't like her.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians: So excited that this is back on!! YAY! There wasn't really much going on in this episode except that they want to spend more time together as a family and showing some of Kim and Kris's relationship. Is it spelled Kris (Humphreys)? They are very comfortable together, like she was with Reggie.

Ice & Coco: This was a pretty boring first episode too, but it was interesting to say the least. I can't believe Coco is only in her 30s. I didn't know she was that young! I will definitely watch the next episode and hope that it gets better.

Monday:

Secret Life: I stick by my thoughts that Adrienne and Ben will not last. It was a strange episode. Really strange.

Switched at Birth: I really love this show! It's only the second episode, but it's soo good. I think that it's kind of crappy how much Bay's "parents" are forgetting about her and I see her becoming close to her bio mom and eventually disowning her "parents." Most of the episode I was waiting for Daphne to say something to her bio family about how she couldn't read their lips and they were making it hard on her. I like that she is hanging out with Bay's ex. He seems like such a good guy. When his friends made fun of deaf people, it was awful. I cringed. I love that Daphne showed them the sign for "I'm a Douchebag" instead of something sexual. haha. I understand Daphne's mom's reservations and frustrations. I think I relate more to her situation and agree with her emotions.

Tuesday:

16 & Pregnant: Taylor...the episode has been pretty boring. They are trying to figure out who will watch the baby. I think it's kind of dumb that they were trick or treating. I also am irritated at how many people are getting induced. It's totally normal to be 42 weeks pregnant. Due date is at 40 weeks because most women go between 38 and 42 weeks. I also love how she says we're going to have a baby in less than 24 hours. *scoffs* She obviously doesn't know much about labors. And what a cranky ass baby!! Jeez. She was whining the whooooole time. I think it was sweet that he was freaking out and crying. I love when the dads cry! And then they fail as fathers. Nick was never like that when we had ours. He was always so willing to help out. Even as a 19 year old father. Nathan is a DICKHEAD. He's so disrespectful. I was in awe of his attitude when it came to taking care of his daughter.

Wednesday:

Real World Las Vegas: From the reunion, I saw a lot of tension and then from the unseen moments...everyone was so close. Nany hooked up with everyone in the house pretty much (all the girls, Adam and made out with Mike). It's pretty ridiculous.

Hot in Cleveland: Elka flees to Amish country (on her way to Canada) where Joy, Victoria and Melanie eventually find her. Joy is still having drama with acting as the governor's mistress and Victoria decides to live the simple life with the Amish because they adore her. Eventually they get back home and the governor's wife makes a deal with Joy that she will get her a green card as long as she keeps her mouth shut and she will also get Elka pardoned. :)

Happily Divorced: I am so excited that there is another Fran show on air!! :) The episode starts with her husband of 18 years telling her that he is gay. She ends up meeting a guy (who is the dad on Switched at Birth) and goes on a date with him. He eats some truffles and ends up in the ER. It was a pretty good episode and I'm excited for what the show brings in the future episodes!

So You Think You Can Dance: Jordan & Tadd danced an African Jazz piece by Sean Cheesman. Sasha & Alexander danced a Contemporary piece by Travis Wall. Clarice & Jess danced a Broadway piece by Tyce Diorio. Ryan & Ricky danced a Lyrical Hip Hop routine by Chris Scott. Caitlyn & Robert (Season 7? who replaced an injured Mitchell) danced to a Jazz number by Sonya Tayeh. Miranda & Robert are dancing a Jive routine by Jason Gilkison. Missy & Wadi danced a Jazz routine by Sean Cheesman (to Judas r3hab remix!!!). Melanie & Marco did a contemporary dance by Travis Wall. Ashley & Chris did a Hip Hop routine with Christopher Scott. Iveta & Nick danced a Jason Gilkison ballroom routine.

I loved the routines! All so beautiful and awesome. I really love Jordan and Clarice - I think they stole the spotlight from their partners. I also love Ryan and Melanie. My favorite dance routines were definitely the Travis Wall routines. He is brilliant and he had some great dancers doing them!

Thursday:

So You Think You Can Dance: Loved the opening routine by Sonya Tayeh. She is a brilliant choreographer!! My next thought is to Keri Hilson or whatever her name is. If you can't sing and dance, don't pretend that you're singing. I don't see the point in it. If you cannot do both at the same time, then pick one and stick with it. It's annoying to see people lipsync. The show ended with NO ONE going home. I'd have to agree - the bottom 7 were all really great dancers that did not need to be going home. I think it was Jess, Clarice, Robert, Miranda, Mitchell, Jordan and Tadd in the bottom. However, next week 2 guys and 2 girls will be leaving :( This is such a good group of dancers. It's gonna be really hard to eliminate people.

Police Women of Broward County: This show is definitely a guilty pleasure. It cracks me up and makes me sad all at the same time. That little blonde cop (I can never remember their names) is frickin' FIERCE. She has a similar personality to mine and we'd be BFF if I ever met her in real life.

NY Ink: Shoo. This shop and the people in it are a mess! I never would've thought Ashley would've been a transexual. At all. I loved the zombie pin up tattoo.

Friday:

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding: I'm still not sure about this show and I wish they would show more into the culture. I only get itty bitty tidbits of what the culture is actually like.

Upcoming Shows:
June 23 - Futurama
June 26 - True Blood
June 30 - Ugly Americans
July 5 - Teen Mom

I'll Scream Later [Review]

Synopsis: Critically acclaimed and award-winning actress Marlee Matlin reveals the illuminating, moving, and often surprising story of how she defied all expectations to become one of the most prolific and beloved actresses of our time.

Marlee Matlin entered our lives as the deaf pupil turned custodian audiences fell in love with in Children of a Lesser God, a role for which she became the youngest woman ever to win a Best Actress Oscar. More than twenty years after her stunning big screen debut, the Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated actress is an inspirational force of nature -- a mother, an activist, and a role model for millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing people around the world.

In I'll Scream Later, Marlee takes readers on the frank and touching journey of her life, from the frightening loss of her hearing at eighteen months old to the highs and lows of Hollywood, her battles with addiction, and the unexpected challenges of being thrust into the spotlight as an emissary for the deaf community. She speaks candidly for the first time about the troubles of her youth, the passionate and tumultuous two-year relationship with Oscar winner William Hurt that dovetailed with a stint in rehab, and her subsequent romances with heartthrobs like Rob Lowe, Richard Dean Anderson, and David E. Kelley.

Though she became famous at the age of twenty-one, Marlee struggled all her life to connect with people, fighting against anyone who tried to hold her back. Her own mother often hid behind their communication barrier, and Marlee turned to drugs before she even started high school. However, she found in acting -- with the encouragement of her mentor, Henry Winkler -- a discipline, a drive, and a talent for understanding the human condition that belied her age and her inability to hear. By the time Hollywood embraced her, she had almost no formal training, a fact that caused many other deaf actors to give her the cold shoulder, even as she was looked upon as a spokesperson for their community.

She has played memorable roles on wildly popular television shows such as Seinfeld, The West Wing, and The L Word, danced a show-stopping cha-cha-cha on Dancing with the Stars, and now, with uncompromising honesty and humor, Marlee shares the story of her life -- an enduring tale that is an unforgettable lesson in following your dreams.

My Thoughts:
While this was such a good read, it was so long and took me forever to read. There were parts that just drug on. And a lot of it was random name-dropping

I still have a lot of respect for Marlee. She's an amazing person.

Underwear Parties, how old is too old? submitted by Wookie & Co.
Am I out of the loop with some hip lingo? Or is this old-timey lingo? I'm confused.

What was your favorite class in high school? submitted by Adventures of M-Squared
What wasn't my favorite class? I loved high school. ANYTHING BAND would top my list. My high school band teacher, Mr. Jackson, was amazing. He made band the most amazing experience of my life. I'd give anything to be back in high school doing any band activity again - even those awful after school practices when it was blistering hot out. I loved Chemistry with Mr. Smith, English with Mr. Thomas, Astronomy with Mr. Lajunesse, and Spanish with Mrs. Bible. I had a bunch of really great teachers and classes throughout high school.

Have you ever convinced packers/movers to pack something they aren't supposed to for a PCS? submitted by Ground Control to Major Mom
I haven't had packers/movers pack any of my stuff yet. Although the beginning of 2012 will be the first time I think :)

Blogging plays a growing roll in the media. If you were asked to embed as a blogger with a deployed military unit, would you go? What do you think your blog would be like? submitted by To the Nth
No. I wouldn't go. I am a big weenie and would not want to be overseas.

Do you think kids should attend year-round school? submitted by Marrying the Navy
No. Absolutely not. I don't care what anyone says are the pros of it. I'm set in my ways :P

Happiness Is...#3

Happiness is...

The kids getting their daddy dolls.

The first of Nick's lockboxes getting here!!

Getting to plant all my flowers finally!
(Although I hope they turn out as beautifully as last year when I planted actual bloomed plants)

Watching the kids play in their new little pool.

Having such a wonderful, amazing husband who doubles as my best friend :)
