March in Review

Continuing with my little tradition of wrapping my month in blogging..here's March in Review!
{February can be found: here}

In March:

1) I continued shredding and blogging about my 30 Day Shred journey. I finished shredding on March 26. I'm now going to be blogging once a week about exercising :) I'm alternating Yoga Meltdown and Ripped in 30. What can I say, I'm a Jillian Michaels whore.

2) I talked some more about blogging pet peeves. If you are violating them, I'll still love you. But I may also loathe you just a little. JUST KIDDING...oh please go look up KWigg's SNL skit.

3) I did more Nail Files...{Week 9, Week 10, Week 11, Week 12, Week 13}

4) And did a few more Top Ten Tuesdays. {Book Covers, Spring TBR List}

5) I talked about Kony 2012 and why you shouldn't believe everything you see/hear.

6) I confessed to being a hoarder. Well, a beauty products hoarder...even though I rarely pretty myself up.

7) I dyed my hair and got new glasses and blogged about it. Herp derp.

8) I talked about the Walking Dead finale! Brought back my old Dish On Your DVR button and all!

9)...and my baby turned 5. Cry with me {here}

10) Speaking of babies, I guest posted over at my bff Amber's blog, My Three Bittles, about my mom body.

11) I saw Hunger Games and here are my thoughts.

12) Don't forget about Pinterest. Every Weds is Pinterest post time {see!}

13) I failed at reading this month. It makes me want to cry. In January AND February, I finished 8 books. This month it was a measly 5.

Here's what I reviewed:
  • On the Bright Side, I'm Now the GF of a Sex God by Louise Rennison {here}
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett {here}
  • Mister Ray by Adam Perry {here}
  • The Iron King by Julie Kagawa {here}
  • The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa {here}

March, honestly, was just too much for me. Even though not a lot happened IRL, I just felt so out of order and discombobulated ALL MONTH. I felt behind in everything and just a mess...a big, unorganized cyclone. I'm ready for April and hopefully I can calm things down!

Now to sum up my progress on "resolutions":
  • Eat more fruit - I really suck at eating fruit. I got some granola and yogurt to make parfaits, but I haven't yet. LOL.
  • Drink more water - Last month I drank anywhere from 16 to 24 oz. each day. I've been almost slacking this month...there are days I drink 16 oz...days I drink 32 oz. I need to get steady on this one. My goal in April is 24 oz daily.
  • Exercise 5x a week - I've been steadily exercising 6 days out of the week :) I don't want to cross this one off just yet though. I may if I stick with it in April.
  • Get organized - This one was awful for March.
  • Stay on schedule (I'm hoping to manage my time better) - Why do I suck at time management so bad??
  • Read A LOT - FAIL.
  • Keep track of finances and save lots of money -We may be getting a second car so this will definitely need to be looked at more closely in April.
  • I want to blog more - regular blog stuff. Just talking about whatever. Less fluff. - I got more regular posts in there this month.
  • Start doing crafts with the kids. Like Wednesday is craft day or something. -We haven't started this yet. SOON.
  • Start family traditions: Family Movie Night and Family Game Night. We did movie night last Sunday and we'll be doing game night this Friday. :) - We did lots more movies than games.

It's SPRINGTIME!! Let's hope the weather keeps getting warmer here in NY.

The Hunger Games

You bet your patootie I'm gonna say something about this!!

Firstly, I saw it once and it was last weekend, so it's not incredibly fresh in my mind like I would've liked to have done. My brain has been pretty scrambled over the last 2 weeks. Not that so much is happening in my life than normal, I just feel very stressed and pulled in 20 different directions.

I saw it with my husband (who has NOT read the books). I saw a review today from That's What We Said that I really enjoyed and will show to my husband about the minor things left out.

Overall, it is one of the very best book-to-movie adaptations I have ever seen. The Games themselves were mind-blowing. Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, and Woody Harrelson could not have been more perfect fits for Effie, Cinna, and Haymitch. The very little time we saw them on screen was enough to make a lasting impression. I adored the mockingjays and Rue. Sweet Rue. She was so so incredible {the actress} - I mean she barely got any camera time and she WAS SOLID! And Miss Lawrence...WOW! JUST WOW! I haven't heard if they are doing the rest of the series, but I desperately hope so because Catching Fire is my fave of the series and the people behind this movie were GENIUSES. It was brilliant.

If you haven't seen it, go see it. If you haven't read the books, READ THEM!

...and one of my favorite things to do is share my favorite related pins :)

The Iron Daughter [Review]

The Iron Daughter
{Technically 4.5 Stars}

Stats:
#2 in Series
288 Pages [Kindle]
Published 1 Aug 2010

Synopsis:
Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey--ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.

Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

My Thoughts:
This one is a 4.5-er. Again, I loved the progression through the book Kagawa took a very interesting route with this book with the Scepter of All Seasons and the closer look at the Unseelie Court. PLUS the evolution of Meghan's feyness. I'm curious to see what will come to light in the next book. It's really hard not to love Puck and want Meghan to be with Puck so badly. Even though Ash is amazingly swoonworthy! I also wanted to mention that they REALLY need to make this into a tv show or movie. This series, that is. It is written so perfectly already that I could just see it coming to life!

I'm Going to Have a Heart Attack

My baby is growing up way too fast. It feels like just yesterday I was coming home from the hospital and now Matthew's FIVE. And he's going to school soon. Granted it's 6 months, but it feels like TOMORROW. WHY???

This post is long overdue, but my oldest turned 5 on March 11th. He wanted a chocolate cake - and boy, did he get it! He also got his first sets of Legos - and he loves them. Luckily, Mommy hasn't stepped on any yet. He watched part of the first Star Wars movie (well, #4 technically speaking) and loves it too. What a little nerd.

He also got to try peanut butter for the first time - although he wasn't too sure on that one :)

 His birthday shirt was a Pikachu shirt. This boy is Pokemon obsessed.
He can tell you like ALL the names of the Pokemon, what they evolve into, and at what level, and what type of Pokemon they are. It's insane.

Playing with his Legos.

We thought a Reese's cup would be a perfect first PB food.

He wanted pizza for his birthday dinner - I made a Pokeball pizza for him!

Behold the 5 year old with his Chocolate Wasted Cake!

I didn't realize this, but apparently my husband is a whiz with building planes out of Legos...so he's been doing that a lot lately and Matthew is happily playing with them :)

As for all of this school talk, I am so nervous and sad and happy. I cannot believe he will be in Kindergarten. He's such a quirky little guy and I'm so afraid no one will like him or something. We've been going to the playground a lot lately though and he's been playing with other kids his age and it was fine, so it's laid to rest a little of my worry. I cried when I wrote down his supply list. I'm going to be a straight up mess for this guy on his first day of school. Ughhhh!

Walking Dead Season 2 Finale

My Thoughts:
Seriously - the worst part of all of this, as a mom watching the show, is that Whori doesn't AT ALL watch or take account for Carl AT ALL...I would be hovering over my children smothering them every second of the day. Another thing that really irritated me...all of those walkers would've just passed through - so why didn't they turn off the lights, close/lock all the doors, go to the cellar and shut the hell up? They wasted all their ammo, left their food/water source, and left their shelter and safety behind. Even still, why didn't they wait in the woods until the walker herd left and reclaimed what was theirs?? I don't claim to be a survival expert or anything, but lord have mercy these people are dumb.

I really don't get why Whori is mad about Shane trying to kill Rick and Rick killing him to defend himself...oh wait...she's a whore. That part really made me mad. Ungrateful wench.

I was completely surprised when ninja girl with the chained walkers came outta no where! Super awesome - but I'm terribly sad that we have to wait until OCTOBER to find out what the hell is going on?! Oh and that perimetered place....?????? Is that where ninja girl lives? Is that a military base or a jail?

Nail Files #12: The Girl On Fire

The Nail Files

In honor of The Hunger Games movie coming out today, I am sharing my Hunger Games nails :) Nothing super special, but they are the most "fiery" of the Capitol Colours collection from China Glaze. The orangey-red base color is Riveting and the gold glitter is Electrify. I love them both! I wish I could get a better picture of the nails themselves. I couldn't keep my eyes off my nails!

I also wanted to show my process of getting my nails ready - they usually last pretty well with this method.

First, I remove my old nail polish with ACETONE nail polish remover (the clear kind) and cotton balls.
Making sure to remove all the debris and oil from my nails.

I apply a clear base coat - I really love the Sally Hansen Double Duty. I let it dry completely.

10 to 20 minutes later, I apply my first coat of the base color.
I wait until that's completely dry and then add my second coat of base color.

If I'm doing a glitter accent nail {I have done this a lot lately}, I add my 2 coats of glitter.
Making sure to let the coats dry COMPLETELY. That's the key here!
Then I apply my top coat :) I do this daily to keep my nails looking awesomesauce.

Riveting isn't THAT orange - but it's got a bit of orange to the color. It's shimmery.
Electrify is gold and red dot glitter. It's so amazing!!

I feel like it's better to share my nail pin finds in this post every week, rather than my Pinteresting post on Weds. So without further ado, nail polish finds for this week - ooooh pretty pretty!
