February in Review

Yesterday, my blog turned FOUR! :) I'm still looking for contributors to be a part of my 500 Follower//4 Year Blogiversary Giveaway. Giveaways are a great way to gain new readers and get your blog's name out there. If you are interested, check out this post for more information. I'm hoping to get it up and running next week.
----------------------------------
Two down, ten to go. I didn't think I would survive February...what with all the FRG stuff going on and all kinds of other craziness, but I did...and now I'm terrified of March. It's even WORSE! There are 3 army functions in one day and then Matthew has a dr appt, I have an eye dr and dentist appt. My husband gets predeployment block leave but we can't leave until Matthew gets his spring break from school. Oy vey. I promise I'm going to survive! LOL

So here's what I've been up to..

  • I posted my nail polish wearing for Nail Files Friday: Week #57 // Week #58 // Week #59 // Week #60
  • I shared my February TBR List. See what I've been trying to read + my reading challenges.
  • I attempted to participate in the Wicked Valentine Readathon, but kind of failed. You can check out my Goals post and my Updates post
  • 2013 Movies I'm Looking Forward To: Identity Theft, The To Do List, and The Great & Powerful Oz to name a few.
  • I've been loving the Most Clicked + Weekend Update post each week. I feel like I'm finally remembering to blog about my life. Feb 4 // Feb 11 // Feb 18 // Feb 25
  • As always, The Pinspiration Project happened every Tuesday. We went from doing voting in the last week and top 3 projects, to no voting and just the most clicked. We finally decided that it's time to end TPP. It's been fun while it lasted. Stop by and check out my projects plus other Pinterest-inspired projects :) Homemade Draino // Fishtail Nails // Hair Mask // Snickerdoodle Muffins
  • I announced a swap hosted by myself, Amber, & Melissa called the Lucky Leprechaun Book & Polish Swap. Sign ups closed on Feb 20. Our reveal day is on March 15th. I'm really excited :)
  • One of my new favorite weekly posts is hosted by my buddy, Melissa, called Things I Don't Love Thursday. It's kind of a fun way to rant, but also tell you a little about myself. Feb 7 // Feb 14 // Feb 21 // Feb 28
  • My other bff, Amber, hosts a weekly linky called 52 Weeks. She is doing at least one RAK each week for the whole year. I finally got around to doing one...it involved cupcakes.
  • I shared some designs that I've worked on recently: Mandie's Two Cents // The Chickapea & Me //
  • If you don't know about BlogLovin' - here are 9 reasons to get your butt on there.
  • I talked about being a Crazy Cat Lady.
  • I read 6 books this month and put 2 on my did-not-finish pile. I didn't get a copy of the last book on my February reading list (Override by Heather Anastasiu :/), so I spent the extra time trying to make a dent in A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin.
What I reviewed:
You Are So Undead to Me //  Roseannearchy //  Crimson Frost // Beautiful Creatures // Pandemonium

How has your month been?

The bedroom tv died.
Yeah...totally not happy about this one. It's been making this awful ringing noise for a long time, but it's not very loud and doesn't really bother me unless the cable box isn't on and the tv isn't making any noise. Right now, my tv really isn't dead...but all of a sudden the sound just STOPPED WORKING. The video is perfectly fine. I am a nighttime/bedtime tv watcher. I watch it to go to sleep. It freaks me out to have no light and no noise when I go to bed. I just listen to everything and think someone is coming to kill me or break into the house. BLARGH.

My kids acting CRAY.
They are angels in public for the most part. I mean like everyone compliments me on how well behaved they are...and then they get home...

At the moment, both of them are 5. Matthew will turn 6 very soon. They are in a very crazy stage right now where they are cooped up from it being winter...and one second they are best friends, the next they are fighting. They hardly listen to me at all. The most ridiculous part is that the punishment that works...is the front-lean-and-rest. Yes, my kids are officially army brats. LOL.

TV breaks.
Does it really have to be until March that Revolution comes back on...and Game of Thrones returns...really? I feel like I've been waiting for sooooo long. I miss my favorite tv shows!

 What's going on...

We got a new couch! The blue one is my mom-in-law's and we will be giving it back eventually. We got this pos used tan couch a few years ago and didn't really think of quality or anything when we got it. Most uncomfortable couch EVER. This red couch (plus the coffee table and end tables) was a steal and it's very great quality. We're really impressed and really happy. We just need to get the old furniture that is taking up the rest of our living room...OUT.

Treated the kiddos to BK Lounge on Friday...and noticed Prixie has fangs :)

On Saturday, I took Matthew to his first birthday party at the skating rink. He had so much fun.

All day Sunday, I spent catching up on emails and scheduling out posts. I was so behind!
My kitties kept me company...pretty Bella.

and sweet little Muffin. She's sleeping on my blog calendar.

Are you hungry?
Well, prepare to be - time to share what I posted on Fantastical this week.

Crazy Cat Lady

If you are new to my blog or don't know me well, I am a crazy cat lady. I had always thought of myself as more a dog person and then we got cats of our own. Actually...I think I was always a cat lady, but my inner crazy didn't come out until we got our own cats. I just want a million of them now.

Bella is my kitty. She loves to sit on me when I read. She's queen of the house and knows it.

A typical morning...Bella saw me reading...Muffin (Nick's cat who thinks she's a dog) saw I had food.

I have a crazy cat lady board on Pinterest...and today is going to be all about Miss Grumpy Cat.
Did you know that Grumpy Cat is a girl? I've been correcting people left and right. Her name is Tardar, but her owners lovingly refer to her as Tard. She has some form of dwarfism. Please squeal at how little she is:

My husband thinks she's so ugly...I love her. I want my own Grumpy Cat. Her face is so precious!

Nail Files #60

Wet 'N Wild's I Red a Good Book + a Jamberry Nail Shield
in Black & White Chevron accent.

I got this same polish for my mom-in-law for Christmas and put off getting some for myself for a while. I couldn't resist any longer. It's the perfect red. It's a true red! The Jamberry shield was a first and I was very pleased with the results. It was easy to apply and didn't chip, wear, or tear in the week I wore it. Neither did the polish!

Stop by next week - I'm hosting a Jamberry giveaway and I'll go into more detail on application :)

Things I Don't Love Thursday

Deployment.
The big "D" word.
Blech....

For those of you who are new to Fortune Favors - this is nothing new. My husband has been to Iraq in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2010. It's literally months away and we just found out he was going...but we're also in a weird stage where it may end up changing that he's not going. It's really crazy. When he first got up to Drum in 2007, he knew right off the bat when he was deploying. When he returned from Iraq, he knew immediately that he would be deploying to Afghanistan in a year's time. So to not know for sure until it happens, is really odd for us.

The strangest thing for me is that I'm not terribly upset just yet. I'm not really freaking out or mildly crying or clingy. It's like I am okay with it...which is weird. His deployment to Iraq - cakewalk. Easy peasy. He would agree on his end of things too. He always says he'd go back to Iraq over Afghanistan any day of the week. Afghanistan deployment was hard all the way around...for him, for me, for the kids. In Iraq, we emailed from 1pm to 1am every day except his day off - Saturday. (He's commo, so emailing me helps to make sure his networks are up and running :)) On Saturdays, he webcammed with the kids and I from 6pm til their bedtime. Then with just me from 8pm to 10pm. He'd go get chow and then come back around 12am and webcam with me until 3 or 4am. It was amazing. In Afghanistan, we webcammed one time...and we spoke on the phone for 5 to 10 minutes every couple of weeks. It was incredibly hard.

So at this point...since I have had two very different deployment experiences on each end of the spectrum, I feel like I'm prepared. I survived both. I know I can do it again. There isn't anything I can do to change it or that he can do to change it, so you gotta suck it up and DEAL.

I'm still worried about the kids...really Matthew. He took BOTH deployments really hard. We've already told them that he is leaving for Afghanistan again. I'm happy that Matthew will be in school for most of it and Cami will be in school for most of it too (when she starts this fall). I'm hoping it, plus the help of some of the military personnel that hold down the base at school, will make it an easier deployment for them.

I'm also kind of glad that I'm the FRG Leader now. There are a couple wives who are new to the army and their husbands have never deployed, so I feel like I'm the perfect moral support. It's so strange that I'm the veteran army wife now. 6 years.

*Phew*

If you are a spouse of a deployed soldier and you ever need to talk, give me a holler. I know how it goes, I know how much it sucks, I know I know! Sometimes you just need someone to talk to.

My Life Lately:
Trying to get some reading done...my nightstand is always full.

I will give NY a point for having good cheese. I think it's the only good thing about NY.
I got 3 cheeses for my husband to try: Smoked Gouda with Bacon (that is so good), Gouda with Maple (not picture that he devoured with a Maple Porter), and Steakhouse Onion Aged Cheddar (it tastes like a steak smothered in grilled onions). Mmmm...cheese.

Got a picture of Natalya & Prixie together...in the snow :3

We went to hang out at work with Nick on Wednesday before we had our meeting at battalion.
I swear it's going to be so funny when my kids are grown and ask why they are derpin' in all these pictures in the end of 2012/beginning of 2013. LOL

We hit up the BK Lounge for lunch...I thought their policy on washing hands was oddly specific.

My husband came home with a surprise on Valentine's Day!
He got me a cashmere plush blanket, Roscato wine, and two things of chocolate.
He also got the kiddos a box of assorted chocolates too :)

Muffin also enjoys my new blankie :)

Unfortunately, the kids and I got sick, so we've been holed up on the couch being pitiful. I found my daughter up on the couch with a cuddle buddy.

I got a new Kindle skin - isn't it ADORABLE??

Time to make you hungry!!
