June in Review

June has been absolutely insane...FRG events, school events, my car had issues TWICE (as in, not drivable at all), and I got a staph infection and ended up on two different antibiotics. Now that school is officially out (last day was the 21st - we go late up here), it's time to enjoy the warm weather before all three of us (Matthew, Cami, and me) start school in September.

Blogging has definitely become more of a chore for me lately, so you may see a ton of book reviews and little of everything else or just very short, brief posts. I'm in this as a hobby, not to make money, so I don't want to be burnt out surrounded by the craziness that has taken over most of the blogworld.

Here's what happened in June:

I Drive a Dodge Stratus!!

When I discovered Saturday Night Live, I fell in love...it was back in the early 2000s. I went on and off watching it for years and recently started watching weekly again...and then I remembered that Netflix had it.

I watched a few from the first few seasons...and then some in the 80s. Then I went ham on the 90s. I'm just now hit the last season of the 90s and am patiently awaiting Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to join the cast...even though Tina Fey is a writer and shows up in the monologue audience sometimes.

I've been pinning SNL like mad, you can see on my Movies & TV board...

Some of my favorite sketches/characters in the 90s:
  • The Gap - Adam Sandler/David Spade/Chris Farley
  • Coffee Talk - Mike Meyers
  • Stuart Smalley - Al Franken
  • Matt the Motivational Speaker - Chris Farley
  • Operaman or any of Adam Sandler's weekend update singing
  • Any time John Goodman is on - hosting OR playing Linda Tripp
  • Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton - dead on and hilarious!
  • Norm MacDonald as weekend update host
  • Mr. Peepers - Chris Kattan
  • CELEBRITY JEOPARDY!!
  • Pretty much any Cheri Oteri or Molly Shannon skit. They have some damn amazing characters and are so talented.
  • Will Ferrell as Harry Carry.
What I find absolutely stunning is that the news stories from 20 years ago are almost dead on to the exact same things that are happening nowadays. Even more frightening is that there are a lot of the same names in the news then and now. Even though it's humorous, it's highly accurate and I wish people would wake up...so yeah. lol
Anyone else a fan of old SNL?
Who's your favorite cast member(s)?

Nail Files #78

In April, Zoya had an Earth Day polish exchange. There was a huge discount and all you had to do was send back the same amount of polishes that weren't 5-free to Zoya. I chose 6 polishes (the first on the left and 2nd from the right are the same - I got one for my swap partner). I previously have purchased 3 and I love Zoya. They are affordable, great polishes. All of them have gone on smoothly. The formula for every last one has been just perfection. They chip as much as OPI does, which isn't that bad, but not quite up there with Essie & Wet 'n Wild for me.

Ignore my horrible lighting here. I'm not even sure what was up...but yeah...you'll see more of these colors in the upcoming weeks.
L to R: Renee, Robyn, Heidi, Sooki, Wednesday, Renee (again), and Neely.

In Bella's window...but she cast a good shadow for the polishes :P

Things I Don't Love Thursday

Staph infections.
I know this is probably completely gross, but it's my biggest Things I Don't Love right now. When Matthew was little, he had a 2, almost 3, year span where he got staph infections every 6 weeks or so because with eczema, your skin is constantly open and exposed to bacteria. It's not like you can wrap your full body up in a bandage. The best I could do was try to prevent it. Thankfully he only needed antibiotics a couple times - the other times we caught it before it abscessed. So staph is nothing new to the family. All of us have had it. But in the last few years, it's definitely significantly NOT happened.

And then I got one :/ My face is broke out in eczema and I scratch it constantly, no matter how much cream, lotion, and/or aloe I use. I feel so bad for Matthew who has had this his whole life. It's very peculiar though, I can watch both of our faces get worse at the same time and flare up - and then they both start to get better at the same time too. Yay pollen and allergens! Anyways, last week I noticed I had a staph infection and tried to take care of it myself first. I know the drill - warm compresses, Mupirocin and a band-aid. Except that it wasn't really draining, my browbone area was swelling and pushing on my eyelid, and it became very painful. I took myself to the local hospital - they didn't lance it (thankfully it wasn't that bad), but I did get put on two different antibiotics and I'm almost done with them. I talked to my pharmacist and he told me that I could take Benadryl at night with me taking my allergy medicine in the morning. So I'm hoping this will prevent me from scratching my face in the night.

There's my huge DON'T LIKE for the week :) Sorry again for the grossness.

Stop! Pinning Time

One of my least favorite parts of summer is the bugs. My house always gets gnats, spiders, beetles, and ants galore. The spiders and beetles don't bother me as much because there is nothing that I can do to keep them out (they aren't coming for human food like the others). I woke up one morning and found ants swarming a piece of root beer pulled pork that had fallen on the ground that I missed.

I didn't want to get those little white ant traps because now that I have two cats, I want something that is safer for them to be around. I found this pin on Pinterest...

From what I've researched, borax can be harmful if inhaled constantly, so I felt a little better using it. I used a tablespoon plus apricot preserves and put them on some old pasta jar lids. My cats didn't mess with it whatsoever and the ants were gone within an hour and two and didn't come back. I was seriously amazed.

Life Happenings & Tummy Grumblings

This week has been a very interesting and full week, but now that school is finally out - it's gonna be so much calmer. Is it bad that I just want to sleep it off?

For some reason, wasps are in love with my car and this makes for a horrible, horrible time when we sit in the car for about 5 minutes prior to picking up Matthew at school.

These things are the most amazing snack food in the whole entire world.
I downed this bag in no time flat. Om nom nom. I can't remember where I found them though :(

OPI's Suzi's Hungary Again!
OPI Euro Collection: Suzi's Hungary Again

Out of all the Euro Collection - this is my favorite. Suzi's Hungary Again is a pretty almost-coral pink. I mean honestly, isn't it just the most perfect pink? Minimal wear and tear, went on smoothly, great formula! :)

Beauty Faves

I discovered Cara of MaskCara on Pinterest and looked up some of her videos - namely the highlighting and contouring video. So I got a few things to help with that process and then a few random makeup-y items (: So here are some new favorites:

Contoured Blusher Brush (a PX generic kind) // Victoria's Secret Smooth Kiss Glossy Lip Butter in Wild One // Rimmel London Natural Bronzer in Sun Light// Rimmel London ScandalEyes in Black // Covergirl Invisible Concealer in Fair // Sally Hansen Thicken-Up! Strengthening Nail Thickener

Zoya Remove + nail polish remover // Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch

Out of all of these, my favorite is the Maybelline Baby Lips! It's the best :) I have the worst time trying to find colors that look okay on me and this one is the perfect pink.

Life Happenings & Tummy Grumblings

We started off last week visiting my friend, Jamie. We walked Peanut and then grabbed some Burger King and hung out with her all afternoon. She reminds me so much of my sister-in-law, Casey.

Cami's LUV dream flats got here! So now we match :)
You can save 20% on your order with my coupon code on the sidebar over there.

Design: From Flab to Fab

Megan contacted me for a little design for her blog - she was ready for a new look and a new name. She told me she loved chevrons and gave me a few colors she wanted to use and then she let me loose! I've been wanting to try a no-header blog design for a while. I really love the way it turned out.

One of my favorite parts of the new design is her siggy!
