April in Review

You can find March's review: here!

April has been kind of crazy. It's been busy, but calm.
So here's what has been going on:

1. I revealed my 2nd book swap goodies: here.

2. I am doing my exercise diary posts once a week. I've decided to settle on Saturdays. So here are my entries for this month: April 2, April 8, April 15, April 21, April 28.

3. I am continuing the book meme, Top Ten Tuesday. In lieu of the present drama surrounding The Story Siren, I will no longer be linking up to In My Mailbox but will continue sharing what I've gotten because I like doing that. I renamed my sharing post Books or Bust.

4. I continue to be a Pinterest addict. I'm closing in on 9000 pins...and then I'll excitedly get to scream "It's OVER 9000!!!" w00t.

5. I posted one "Currently" post this month. I'm hoping to participate in that one more in May.

6. Girl, you know I'm showing off my nails!! Yep. I'm also sharing my favorite nails from Pinterest on Nail Files Fridays now! Week 14, Week 15, Week 16, Week 17.

7. I shared my frustrations with internet drama. *Sigh*

8. I found the best Chris-Brown-is-a-douche funny. It got posted all by itself.

9. I talked about naming cats. Remember, I'm a crazy cat lady!?!

10. Typically, I'd be upset at my books read this month. However, this month I read some LONG books.

What I reviewed:
  • The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa {here}
  • The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa {here}
  • Lover Reborn by JR Ward {here}
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare {here}
Some progress on my "resolutions":

  • Eat more fruit - I've eaten a BUNCH of dried fruit this month. But I still want to eat more fresh fruit. SMOOTHIES SMOOTHIES SMOOTHIES. I need to remember this.
  • Drink more water - I've managed to go back to about 16 oz. a day. *sigh* I WILL get to 24 oz. steady in May and lean more towards 32 oz. a day.
  • Exercise 5x a week - I was smart to not cross this one off, like I KNEW this month I would lose some of my gusto. I exercised 12 (as of, 23rd) days.
  • Get organized - I am working on this one.
  • Stay on schedule (I'm hoping to manage my time better) - Doing a lot better with this one. I hope to keep up in May and cross it off :)
  • Read A LOT - I have read some big books this month.
  • Keep track of finances and save lots of money - We ended up getting our second car and so now I will be redoing our budget. We did start doing a lot better with planning out stuff. I'm trying to cut costs with groceries and each week I get $20 back to give to my husband to use for drinks and snack during the week.
  • I want to blog more - regular blog stuff. Just talking about whatever. Less fluff. - Need to do this. I have a plan!
  • Start doing crafts with the kids. Like Wednesday is craft day or something. - I am disappoint. Still haven't started that...grammar mistake was intentional...LOL
  • Start family traditions: Family Movie Night and Family Game Night. We did movie night last Sunday and we'll be doing game night this Friday. :) - We seemed to have a lot of busy weekends and failed.
It's still painfully cold here in New York, so let's hope May brings some much needed warm weather and orders out of here! :)

Books or Bust #7

In lieu of the recent drama, I will no longer participate in the Sunday meme, In My Mailbox, to share books I've gotten. I will now be sharing my purchases, giveaway wins, etc. through my own meme called Books or Bust (may eventually turn into a linky party or I may link up with others). All previous IMM have been changed and unlinked.

{Giveaway Wins}
From Literary Exploration: I chose Shatter Me and because she is a big sweetheart and totally sent the package to herself on accident, Anna also sent me an Enchanted ARC to make up for the late arrival. Plus a pin and a sticker! :)

Walmart had a bargain books shelf and I jumped at the chance for Samantha Bee's I Know I Am, But What Are You? for $2.97 and Flirt by Laurell K. Hamilton for $3.97.

Last week I joined Net Galley and I'm pretty excited. I will be cooking out of the cookbooks (one I received last week) over the next two weeks. I'm hoping to read a few of the galleys asap...before they are released.

Nail Files #17

The Nail Files

Only 2 more Hunger Games polishes to share after today. I wore Smoke & Ashes with Fast Track as an accent nail. In the bottle, Smoke & Ashes is this beautiful green/blue sparkly gorgeous color. It was so dark on my nails though. It was a little disappointing and it was also a pain in the BUTT to get off. Fast Track, however, is beautiful! It's a very lovely neutral with shimmer.

Last week it was colors, this week I'm sharing...
This is AMAZING! It's Capitol Colours collection Electrify with black nail polish - girl on fire :)

Essie's tangerine? Maybe? I hate when people don't tell you the color they use or it's from a dang tumblr site.

Cat Namer Extraordinaire

As you all probably know by now...I have two kitties.

Bella was already named when we got her. Her full name is actually Annabella, but she goes by Bella.

Muffin was called Snickers as a name-holder until she was adopted at the SPCA. So we got to pick her name. I threw out Alice, but hubs didn't like that. We finally picked Muffin because Nick's mom had a kitten we called LoverMuffin even though her given name was Stella. We used to call each other muffin when we dated. She is a lovie little kitty, so it fits her to a tee!

Cute, right?
Now how come I titled this Cat Namer Extraordinaire? Because we come up with so much more than that. We give our cats FULL names. Crazy cat people, remember?!

Bella is now Bella Trix Ellis - clearly because of Harry Potter and because Bellatrix is an awesome character that everyone loves to hate! :) Not that my cat is hateable or anything.

Muffin is Muffin Top Ellis. She's not fat, but it's really funny when she does something mischievous and I holler "MUFFIN TOP ELLIS!!" :)

We petsit a friend's cats for a few days while he was out of town. They were named Luke and Buddha. We gave them full names too. Luke Skywalker and Buddha Belly (and then their last names).

We've even gone as far as to give our kitties ghetto names. Muffin became Moofonda Topniqua and Bella is Bellicious Trixesha.

It's okay. We're completely ridiculous :)

Top Ten Tuesday #6

Today's theme is Top Ten Favorite Characters
{in no particular order}
  1. Alice Cullen from the Twilight Saga: She is so much like a fairy - she's quirky, fun, and full of energy. But she is also incredibly protective of those she loves. She was hands-down my favorite character in the saga.
  2. Zsadist from Black Dagger Brotherhood series: Oh, tortured soul. I was waiting and waiting for Z's story and I was sucked in when it happened (book 3). I always like the dark, "broken", bad boys in stories. They are like the underdog and I always root for them.
  3. Hannah Swenson from Hannah Swenson series: Hannah is so awesome. I cannot stress this enough. She's a fellow Minnesotan and she has a cookie shop. She's sassy and stays true to who she is. She's not a girly girl, but a guy's girl.
  4. Sirius Black from Harry Potter series: The first time I ever cried reading a book was over his death. It was devastating. He was only in a few of the books, but what he did in that short time was insanely memorable and heartwarming, etc.
  5. Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter series: How can you not love Dumbledore? He's one of the best characters of the literary world. He is probably my favorite book character ever.
  6. Eric Northman from Southern Vampire Mystery series: SWOON! Part of the swoon may be due to Alexander Skarsgard's part in this character, but even in the books, so hard not to love a bad boy! :P AND he's a Viking. This helps :)
  7. Prince Ash from Iron Fey series: Another mysterious "bad boy" type, the Winter Prince! I wasn't necessarily the most fond of Meghan...and I was totally in love with Puck's character until Ash came into the picture.
  8. Anita Blake from Anita Blake series: She is easily one of the most kickass women in the literary world. AND she's surrounded by amazing men.
  9. Nathaniel from Anita Blake series: In some ways, his character reminds me a little of Zsadist now that I reflect back on him. He such a special person in Anita's life and a very, very important part too.
  10. Jean Claude from Anita Blake series: The "Eric Northman" of St. Louis! But really...he is much like Eric Northman. Love it!
Special mentions: Moishe (Hannah Swenson series), Crookshanks (Harry Potter series), and Grimalkin (Iron Fey series). These are all cats...and I love them. That's right...even the crazy cat lady has some crazy book cat love! :)
