Top Ten Books on my Winter 2022/2023 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

Oh it's that dreadful time of year where I see that I haven't read anything off my seasonal TBR before the new one is due to be posted. I only get to add 2 books to my seasonal TBR because my brain won't allow me to scrap the whole thing and just post 10 new books. In 2023, I plan to have shorter TBRs and allow myself to mood read which will probably consist of choosing books I meant to read on past TBRs but not feel I have to read specific ones :) We will see how that goes.
  1. Always Jane by Jenn Bennett - Leftover from my Spring & Summer TBR - Netgalley book
  2. The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith - Leftover from my Spring & Summer TBR
  3. Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings - Leftover from my Summer TBR - Netgalley book
  4. Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston - Leftover from my Summer TBR
  5. The Cursed Sea by Lauren DeStefano - Leftover from my Summer TBR
  6. Horrid by Katrina Leno - Leftover from my Fall TBR
  7. Black Witch Magic by Mila Nicks - Leftover from my Fall TBR
  8. The Vegas Diaries by Holly Madison - Leftover from my Fall TBR
  9. Saga, Volume 10 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples - I have had this on my mind for so long. Had it preordered the very second I could. Received it on release day. And then it has sat. I want to get around to reading it and being absolutely destroyed.
  10. Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake - I hauled this in July thanks to Netgalley. It's the sequel to Delilah Green Doesn't Care and I know I will love it, so I'd really love to read it. I wanted to read it before it released in November but I didn't get around to it.

November 2022 Book Haul

I hauled 2 books in November. I feel like November came and went so quickly that I just didn't have time to haul things. I did better about sticking to my TBR as well, so I think I hauled less because of that. I have read The Kiss Curse and I now have read 70 of the 100 books I've hauled in 2022. Leaving total unread count at 30. I still would like to get it down to 25 by the end of the month. However, I only have 1 of the books on my December TBR, so it's unlikely that will happen. I'm still really happy with having read 70% of what I hauled in the year. What an accomplishment!

KINDLE BOOKS
  1. Lucien and I by Sasha Clinton

LIBRARY BOOKS
  1.  The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling - borrowed audiobook

December 2022 TBR & Monthly Challenges

My favorite blurb, as always: In 2022, I'm continuing to participate in the Words & Whimsy Reading Challenge (new challenge each month - December is "Christmas Vacation" theme). You sign up and are split into teams and finish books for points. They also have a mini game, photo challenge, and charity challenge to get points for your team as well.

November seemed to have chilled out a little bit which was great and I was able to read 8 books. 6 of those were on my TBR - huge win! I decided that I will definitely be making shorter TBRs in 2023 to allow myself to mood read a little and pick on the fly. This month I have a lot of Kindle reads and I hope now that it's cozy time that I will be able to really finish all of these. I have one physical book and I really would like to actually read it. I've struggled to read physical books for the past few years.

My TBR for December:
  • The Midnight Orchestra by Jessica Khoury (Hardcover - Purchased)
  • The Delphi Resistance by Rysa Walker (Kindle - Purchased)
  • The Delphi Revolution by Rysa Walker (Kindle - Purchased)
  • The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre (Kindle - Purchased)
  • I Want My Epidural Back by Karen Alpert (Kindle - Purchased)
  • The Vegas Diaries by Holly Madison (Kindle - Purchased)
  • Undercover Engagement by Samanthe Beck (Kindle - Netgalley)
  • A Spot of Trouble by Teri Wilson (Kindle - Netgalley)

2022 READING CHALLENGES: should be at 91%
Goodreads Challenge: 105/52 books - 201% COMPLETED 6/8
Series Challenge: 23/20 series - 115% COMPLETED 9/16
Netgalley Challenge: 19/13 books - 146% COMPLETED 6/8
Haul It Challenge: 35/30 books - 116% COMPLETED 8/23

I have read 3 of the 6 and am currently reading 1 of the 3 left. I am now at 67% read of what I've hauled this year. Top Ten Series I'd Like to Finish

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

I could not resist this prompt because I am forever tracking series and trying to get my overall number down. I'm currently in the middle of 42 series....21 of them are completed. I could cut that number in half if I actually read all the completed series. I want to say my goal is to get under 25 series in 2023. We'll see how that goes. But here are 10 that I would love to complete (and hopefully sooner rather than later):

  1. Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep: I started this in 2013 and have 4 books left (one of which I have a galley of that should have been read and reviewed years ago but we aren't going to talk about that). I would just love to finish this series out.
  2. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: My goal is to actually reread the first two books because I started them so long ago that I don't really remember the plot or characters. So I'd also love to keep up the momentum and finish it out.
  3. Winston Brothers by Penny Reid: I like these books for quick pick-me-up romances and I only have 4 left of the 7. They are usually quick reads.
  4. The Delphi Trilogy by Rysa Walker: I really enjoyed the first book and it's a completed trilogy, so win!
  5. Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston: I have had Soul of Stars for so long and I have put it on many a TBR. I really just need to bite the bullet and read finish this duology! I'm hoping to finish it this month!
  6. The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty: Another really awesome series that I started and should have just marathoned but didn't.
  7. Cassidy Blake by Victoria Schwab: The first book was so dang good and middle grade is always quick to get through. I really don't have any excuses.
  8. Mirage by Somaiya Daud: Another duology with the second book just staring daggers at me.
  9. Serpent & Dove by Shelby Manurin: I think I would blow through the rest of this trilogy so dang quickly if I'd just pick it up. It's just 2 books.
  10. Wicked Villains by Katee Roberts: Honestly, I'm gonna blow through this entire series, pun not intended, because it's like a bag of chips in which I'm not hungry but will sit down and gorge myself with no regrets. I'm in the middle of book 3 right now and there are 7.

What series do you want to finish?

November 2022 TBR & Monthly Challenges

My favorite blurb, as always: In 2022, I'm continuing to participate in the Words & Whimsy Reading Challenge (new challenge each month - November is "Readers of the Lost ARC" theme). You sign up and are split into teams and finish books for points. They also have a mini game, photo challenge, and charity challenge to get points for your team as well.

October was a little nuts - 3 band competitions (this last weekend was so fun - kids took first place in their class and grand champion of the smaller classes - out of 16 bands!!), 3 football games, fall break, HOA meetings, board meetings, band booster meetings, after school rehearsals, doctor appts galore...I AM TIRED. The first few weeks of November are shaping up to be just as busy, but then it should quiet down some and I'm hoping to tackle some more ebooks and physical books rather than just audiobooks.

In October, I finished 10 books. 5 were on my TBR, so that's nice, but I am starting to stray from my TBR a bit and mood read a bit more. I may have to make shorter TBRs in the beginning of 2023 and allow myself to not feel guilty about the mood reading. I did make TBRs for November and December already so I'm hoping maybe I can stick to them. I think this month has a good mix of audio, ebook, and physical and that might work for me.

My TBR for November:
  • Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston (Hardcover - Purchased)
  • The Rains by Gregg Hurwitz (Kindle - Netgalley)
  • Buzz Books 2022: Romance by Publishers Lunch (Kindle - Netgalley)
  • Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo (Audio - Purchased)
  • Siege & Storm by Leigh Bardugo (Audio - Purchased)
  • Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo (Audio - Purchased)
  • The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (Audio - Library)
  • Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte (Hardcover - Purchased)

2022 READING CHALLENGES: should be at 83%
Goodreads Challenge: 97/52 books - 186% COMPLETED 6/8
Series Challenge: 21/20 series - 105% COMPLETED 9/16
Netgalley Challenge: 18/13 books - 138% COMPLETED 6/8

October 2022 TBR & Monthly Challenges

My favorite blurb, as always: In 2022, I'm continuing to participate in the Words & Whimsy Reading Challenge (new challenge each month - October is "Worlds of Gaiman" theme). You sign up and are split into teams and finish books for points. They also have a mini game, photo challenge, and charity challenge to get points for your team as well.

I knew September would be insane and it was...so I knocked some audiobooks out and only finished 1 book on my actual TBR of 8. ((awkward smile)). I did read 8 books though, so win! I definitely will be carrying over some books I meant to read this year into 2023 and probably make TBRs of just those books until I can finish them.  I also ended up completing my Series challenge in September!

In October, I am going to try and get some Netgalley books out of the way and also read a few witchy books for spooky season. I'm also reallllly hoping to tackle The Final Empire, which is a behemoth. Wish me luck. I requested a random 3 days off of work in October and if approved, I can read to my heart's content!

My TBR for October:
  • A Very Merry Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams (Kindle - Netgalley)
  • Slip by David Estes (Kindle - Netgalley)
  • Black Witch Magic by Mila Nicks (Kindle - Netgalley)

Top Ten Books on my Fall 2022 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

I'm rolling over 7 books from my Summer TBR (3 of those rolled over from Spring). I wanted to do a fresh seasonal TBR for fall and I did not get that far. That's okay though. I'm planning out my TBRs for the next few months and have added a lot of these to those lists.

August 2022 Book Haul

I hauled 11 books in August due to me reading Desperate Measures and needing to have the rest of the series on hand in case I want to read it. I do hope to read at least half the series before year end. I'm still sitting at 60% of hauled books read for this year. I have 33 unread (up 4 from last month) and still hope to get to 20 or lower at the end of the year.
