January in Review

The first monthly review for 2013. I've decided to not include "goals" this year because I'm going to have the same ones all year round. They include: staying organized, putting my all into my blogs, balancing life as a mom, army wife, and blogger, and reading a ton!

So here's what I've been up to..

Things I Don't Love Thursday

{Hosted by Lulu & Sweet Pea}

Nail Polish Chipping.
Bane of my existence, yo. I love painting my nails. I'm not a girly girl and I'm horrible with everything dealing with hair and makeup, but I can paint the hell out of my nails. However, I am rough on my hands - I'm constantly in my kitchen cooking, baking, and then cleaning. So I have to have a polish that withstands my abuse. I love OPI, Essie, and Wet'N'Wild. I DESPISE Julep and China Glaze. Sorry, folks who love them. They chip like crazy. Melissa, my nail tech friend and bloggy BFF, gave me tips on how to minimize chipping and that works for my faves. But nothing prevents Julep and China Glaze from chipping.

Weekend Update & TPP Most Clicked

from Hearts & Crafts Boutique
How cute is this? It also seems relatively easy as far as crafts go. I think I could handle it!

from a Dose of Paige
I have a calendar in my desk and a file thingie on top of my desk. I think this would be a great combination of my two favorite sorts of organization.

The Pinspiration Project

Now to get a little update out of the way. This last week has been crazy! Again! On the blog, I shared Baked Fried Chicken for The Pinspiration Project, a review for The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, what I'm not loving lately for Things I Don't Love Thursday, a pretty polish for The Nail Files, another blog design that I've done, and a review of This is Forty.

Monday - Nick and Matthew were both home and our friends had stayed the night Sunday. Tuesday - Nick was home again (he had a 4 day), but Matthew was back at school. Every time Nick is home on weekdays, I get all thrown off schedule. Wednesday - I got a phone call from Matthew's school that they had been moved down the street to a church because they were investigating an odor. They called back at lunchtime to tell us they were being released at 1pm.

Thursday - Matthew's school had a half day for training, so we decided to drive out to Watertown and get haircuts and then shop at Target, Old Navy, and Ulta.

Cami & Matthew had pizza at Target.

My haircut was a trim and some sideswept bangs. I also discovered that I clearly have an obsession with coffee mugs. I've run out of room in my cabinet, but I couldn't resist this kitty one!

Friday - I had a 3 hour long meeting at battalion that ended up making me a few minutes late picking up Matthew from school. But I came home to my new Vera Bradley! It was $17.50 - if you shop the sales, you can get a great price on them. Plus they are washable - always a plus for a mom.

The weekend was spent reading, playing video games and just general awesomeness.

This is Forty

Source: via Roop on Pinterest

So basically the synopsis of this one is life for Pete & Debbie beyond "Knocked Up" - another Judd Apatow movie. Debbie turns 40 in the movie and is trying to cope with that while Pete is having problems with his business and not wanting to let Debbie know that they are hurting financially.

Let me just preface by saying, I'll pretty much watch anything starring Paul Rudd and/or Leslie Mann. They are both incredibly funny and Judd Apatow's movies are usually pretty funny too.

Also starring in this movie were Apatow/Mann's two daughters.
I called it for the younger one. She looks so much like Leslie.
The older looks just like her dad!

Now here's where it gets real. This movie also stars Jason Segel, Megan Fox, and briefly John Lithegow. I really wanted to love this movie. I wouldn't say it was bad, but I wouldn't say I loved it. I would give it 3 stars. I wouldn't buy this movie, but I may watch it if it were on tv. I had 3 main issues. 1) The older daughter character was completely obnoxious, over the top, and needed some damn discipline. Just wow.  2) The father in law (Pete's dad) was awful. Just awful. As a person. He was just not a great guy at all. Deadbeat.  3) The movie had plenty of funny jokes and lines and I even liked Megan Fox for once. However, it got about halfway through and just became depressing. It just seemed like it dragged on forever.

Design: Hated on the Playground

One of my friends, Jessica, from my Cafemom days contacted me about a blog design - it was awesome to catch up with her and also see her jumping into the blog world :)

After gabbing for a bit, we got started on her blog. Jessica wanted pinks, greys, and turquoise incorporated into her blog. I used Sketch Block and Janda Stylish Script for some of her main fonts.

My favorite part of her blog design was the about me blurb that we originally had up.
How adorable is this?!

Although due to some html issues, we had to move the icons up to her header. I actually had to change my blog because the same issue happened, even though it was previously just fine. I'm hoping it'll work itself out and we can install her original about me blurb.

Either way, I loved the final result of her blog design and was happy to see a new friend join the blog world - make sure you stop by and visit her:

Nail Files #56

Another super gorgeous color from Julep...but also a poor result in the wearing and tearing department. I have had it on a whopping 3 days - it's curling at my cuticles and chipping everywhere. Plus it looks like it went on streaky and uneven, even though it didn't. :/

It drives me bonkers that Julep has such beautiful, gorgeous colors, but the polish is horrid. I haven't even done a lot of cooking or washing dishes and they are horribly chipped. For as expensive as the polishes sell for, they are crap quality. *end rant*

Things I Don't Love Thursday

{Hosted by Lulu & Sweet Pea}
Waking up in the morning.
I am not a big fan of the mornings. I'm not one of those people who is like COFFEE in the morning. I think I have a sensitivity to caffeine and it makes me more tired - pass by the whole "wake you up" phase and straight to "you've had too much, time to crash" phase. I am just not a morning person. The worst part is that I also don't sleep in. If I've slept til 8am, I'm normally good and will get up. Anything past 9am and I feel like I've wasted my whole day. I just don't like people talking to me and I don't really want to have any social interaction before noon. There...I've said it. LOL

Doing the dishes.
Some of you may have noticed that I food blog. I am constantly in my kitchen, making it a mess. I love to eat...I love to cook...I love to bake. I do it every single day. But I HATE, with a murderous, venomous passion, doing the dishes. I will clean 8 million toilets before I'd clean a sink of dirty dishes. It's my least favorite chore...ever.

Talking on the phone.
I'm really horrible at being social. Any of my friends can tell you that half the time I don't return their texts because I've lost my phone somewhere in my house. I honestly am glad that I can text because if it was left to calling and talking on the phone...ICK. One of the biggest reasons is that I have this thing where I love to multitask. I'm always multitasking. When I'm on the phone, I cannot ever just fully pay attention to what whomever it is talking. I am like cleaning absent-mindedly or just distracted by something else. Then I feel like I jerk because I'm not paying attention. Yep.

Weekend Update & TPP Most Clicked

A little bit of news, Amber, Melissa, and I were talking and we have all gotten a little overwhelmed with blogging and TPP. We didn't want to do away with it, so what we decided is to do away with the voting. We don't feel that anyone is really motivated by that and the free ad space isn't as great now because you can get it everywhere now. Until we have more link ups we will just be choosing to feature the most clicked and then each of us will also share our favorite from the week. We don't want to get burned out because TPP is our baby and we love it!

The Pinspiration Project

I had a really crazy week. Tuesday - I ended up waking up, taking Matthew to school, coming home for about 30 minutes, going to an hour long training, going grocery shopping, coming home and heating up lunch and finishing half of it before running to pick up Matthew from school for a dentist appointment. Wednesday was spent at Nick's work trying to get stuff done for the FRG. Those two days kind of made my whole week seem insane.

I realized I'm kind of a crazy cat lady.
My cats in bed with me while I read and ate cheese and crackers.

I babysat for a friend Saturday and Sunday - baby Taylor is so sweet.
She's a little over 2 months old.

Our friends came over on Sunday since they had a 4 day weekend for MLK's birthday.
 The boys brewed beer...

We also got Amanda to play Pokemon Red on the Super Nintendo because she had never played any of the Pokemon games before and we thought that was unacceptable. LOL

...and we had some wine and played some Kings' Cup after the kids went to bed.

Some other fun stuff...
My recipe was featured on Circle of Moms!

And Firmoo used my picture again for Facebook promotion :)

And lastly, what I shared on my food blog this week!
