The Iron King [Review]

 The Iron King

Stats:
#1 in Series
363 Pages [Kindle]
Published 1 Feb 2010

Synopsis:
Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined--the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series.

My Thoughts:
I'm not sure what I was thinking, but this is the first fairy book I think I've ever read. When I was little, I was obsessed with fairies and I always wanted to write my own fairy book (which did get like 2 chapters done when I was in 3rd grade).

I didn't really go into the book expecting good or bad. I hadn't really heard anything about the books at all. I did shamelessly judge the cover art - which is completely gorgeous :)

To start off, Kagawa had me when she used Shakespeare in it. I'm all about some Shakespeare! I really love her description of everything. It was effortless for me to be sucked into Nevernever and to see everything going on around the main characters.

Meghan isn't necessarily my favorite heroine, but she is very "real" in the sense that I could understand how most people would react similarly in her position. I think my favorite was a tie between Robbie/Puck and Grim. I do love a cute kitty :)

Oh and Prince Ash - I CANNOT WAIT to see where Kagawa goes with this. It's definitely a must-read. I already started on book 2!

I had to write down this passage from the book because when I read it, I immediately thought "It's Fort Drum!!"

"  Ladies and felines,"   he stated grandly, grasping the doorknob,
"  welcome to Tir Na Nog. Land of endless winter and shitloads
of snow."
