March in Review

March has been insane. Like completely insane.

I've started getting really overwhelmed with predeployment time and then all of life stuff going on is driving me insane. Plus I got sick for a week in the smack dab middle of March. So my posting has gotten a little irregular. We're visiting family for the week and then we'll be back home in the hustle & bustle of the month my husband is ACTUALLY deploying. Third time. But once he's gone...I'm sure it'll seem so unbusy!

Here's the blog happenings for the month:

Nail Files #65

A few weeks ago, I talked about the OPI Oz collection. The first of my minis that I tried out was this pale pink color: I Theodora You. I used 3 coats to get a good opacity. It's the most perfect feminine and subtle pink that I own. I adore it!

Things I Don't Love Thursday

{Hosted by Lulu & Sweet Pea}

The non-food blogging community.
It seems like the food blogging community is super supportive. It makes me happy to be a part of it. Everyone has everyone else's back and there is so much sharing of each other's posts. If someone steals a picture, you have a bunch of people sticking up for you. If you need help or advice, there are some big bloggers who are full of knowledge and often give it willingly for free, even though they could hold back and charge out the wazoo for it. The NON-food bloggers...(this is generalized, of course) seem to be a big bunch of whiners and bitchers. There is so much drama. It's weird to think that I could be a part of both of the communities, however, I usually don't try and claim to be a part of the one full of drama. Like...you can't do anything nice for someone else without having an ulterior motive...there are people creating fake profiles to promote their own blogs...there are people complaining left and right about someone else's success. It is a huge turn off. So I will just stick to the people who make and love food. Way cooler.

Predeployment Jitters.
I've had my second bout of crying for no reason last week...and now I feel like a ticking time bomb. When am I going to cry again out of the blue? Where am I gonna be? What's gonna set me off? UGH. The day before block leave started...I was sitting at my computer minding my own business and then boom. Waterworks. Cried and cried for a good half an hour. I hate being an emotional wreck. Stupid deployment. I think mostly my emotions are going crazy because even though I have been through it twice and know what to expect...it's still a super emotional experience. It's a really DIFFICULT experience and even if I act like I'm strong, there are still moments where my sub-conscious catches up with me.

Shedding.
Why yes, I would love half my hair to fall out and land all over anything that I pass by. Sounds awesome.

P.S. Sorry for the lack of posting. I was sick for what felt like forever and then was feeling really overwhelmed, but not really too much so that I felt like blogging each day. I'm leaving tonight for Knoxville for some predeployment time with family, so I'll probably be a little MIA for the next week or so.

Life Happenings & Tummy Grumblings

Another week spent sick. Blargh! I finally started to feel better on Friday - but until then, Nick's kitty cuddled with me until I felt better. I swear I slept all week long. Cami did too - she is 10x more pitiful than any of us when she's sick.

I think this was Thursday night...went to go to bed and my spot was taken up by Nick and 2 cats. I was like...seriously, guys?

Ah, Friday morning. Looking like spring to me :/

So really long story short, I've been trying to get a particular Giada knife for months now at Target. It's either out of stock or something's wrong with the last knife sitting on the shelf. Last time, it was recalled...this time it was broken. hard to tell in this picture, but the knife is in two pieces.

TX Roadhouse for lunch -  yum!
I never finish my food because I fill up on the rolls. Nom nom nom.

After about 12 shots of her coughing into her elbow, I finally got a picture...lol

And then there's food!

Nail Files #64

So I hadn't really been tracking the Euro Centrale collection from OPI. I had started to see swatches pop up here and there on polish blogs and I knew I had to get my hands on a few of them. The ones I coveted the most: Suzi's Hungary AGAIN! and My Vampire Is Buff. I found a set of minis and got a full size of the My Vampire Is Buff. The minis L to R: Can't Find My Czechbook, Suzi's Hungary AGAIN!, You're Such a BudaPest, Oy-Another Polish Joke!

They are all so pretty and I can't wait to test them out.
Have any of you gotten any of these? What do you think?

Life Happenings & Tummy Grumblings

Another week come and gone. I put off writing this post because I am sick...again. I have been sick for every single holiday...except Thanksgiving this school year. Thankfully, Cami doesn't seem to be getting sick and Matthew is almost better.

So here's what we did:

March is probably my least favorite month in the year up here. It warms up some, but that also causes more snow. But then it'll get really cold. So it's really miserable as Momma Nature can't decide what season it wants to be. We have snow that covers the whole ground right now, but this is what it looked like earlier in the week.

I'm the worst at getting pictures of my outfits...and posing in a way that doesn't make me look huge. I pretty much refuse to put my hand on my hip and be a cliche girl picture. Anyways...I got this shirt plus two sets of jeggings at Wally World. They have been getting some cute clothes in lately. I usually don't shop clothes there. But couldn't pass these up. I wish they had the teal colors in my size.

I pulled my best Hannah Swensen on Friday night and made 15 dozen cookies for a family day on Saturday that I found out Charlie Co was joining up with Bravo Co to do. I made Snickerdoodles, Birthday Cake Oreo Cookies (my own recipe), Espresso Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Death by Chocolate Sea Salt Cookies (a recipe I tweaked slightly).

After we got home on Saturday, we curled up on the couch and read some Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
So far the kids and I are really digging it.

Since Matthew and I are sick...we took a nap while Cami watched stuff on Netflix.
Muffin kitty curled up with us too...huge cuddlefest.

And for the first time...here's some food pics that aren't actually making me hungry since I'm sick.
Oyster crackers and water for me :( But you can enjoy them!

Matthew's 6th Birthday

So, last week was my oldest baby's 6th birthday. I don't know why, but it totally kills me when he gets a year older. He's my baby. It seems like just yesterday I became a mom - the whole experience literally changed my world completely. It changed everything. I never thought I had the capacity to love another person as I do Matthew (obviously I love my husband too, but a mother's love is completely different). :)

We celebrated a day early due to Nick going out to the field for a week starting on his birthday. He opened presents from us and my parents and one of our friends. He got Beyblades, Legos, Super Scribblenauts (for DS), Peter Pan (on DVD), and a few other things. He got some awesome Ninjago stuff from my husband's parents on his actual birthday.

He loved his card from Grandma & Grandpa

Nick showing him his Beyblade (he got 2 and adores them!)

His face! LOL. He was so excited about the Legos.

He asked for a Rolo Cake for his birthday. We had calzones on his actual birthday.
He didn't see the cake until it was sat down in front of him. He loved it!

On his birthday, I brought cupcakes to his class for snack.
He told his class all day long about them and he had picked them out himself: Rolo cupcakes to go with his Rolo cake, I suppose. They were the very best cupcakes I've ever had. He loved them too.

Just like with Cami, I asked him questions that I'll one day turn into a book. Here were his answers:

What is your favorite...
  • color: red
  • toy: DS
  • fruit: pineapple
  • tv show: Star Wars the Clone Wars
  • thing to eat for lunch: grilled cheese sandwich
  • outfit: my Darth Vader mustache shirt
  • game: Pokemon Black 2 (on DS)
  • snack: M&Ms and yogurt
  • animal: a dragon
  • song: Gangnam Style (his sister said this too LOL)
  • book: Cars (he has tons of Cars books)
  • cereal: Go Lean Crisp (Kashi - yum!)
  • thing to do outside: play in the snow
  • drink: apple juice
  • holiday: Christmas
  • thing to eat for breakfast: yogurt
Who is your best friend? Connor
What do you like to take to bed with you at night? Pluto (stuffed animal - Mickey's dog)
What do you want for dinner on your birthday? Calzones, and put pepperoni in it, as well.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A writer
