February 2021 TBR & Monthly Challenge

Monthly TBR and Challenge Update | The post where I share what I plan to read and how badly I'm doing on my yearly reading challenges :)

In 2021, I'm participating in Words & Whimsy Reading Challenge (new challenge each month - Feb is Dark Valentine) and The Avengers Initiative Reading Challenge (a year long challenge).

January was a pretty solid reading month. I read 9 books in January totaling 2280 pages and 32 hr 22 min - my wrap-up will be posted next Monday. I'm happy with how January went as far as my yearly goals that I set for myself. I'm ahead on my Goodreads goal, I'm ahead on my series challenge, and I read both an Owlcrate and Netgalley book last month. I have finally posted my 2021 Series Tracker, so if you're interested in seeing what I want to read and what I've added to that list of more than 50 series...ouch...check it out.

I have fewer physical books on my TBR for the month because I have a lot of books at the library read to borrow and I want to clear out my holds list. My goal for February is 150 pages per day and I should be able to complete all these books if I can do that. I will say that I did kind of struggle with 125 in January, but I'm thinking that I can still do 150. I know I can. I expect that most of these books are going to be high ratings for me.

My TBR for February:

2021 READING CHALLENGES: should be at 8%
Goodreads Challenge: 9/50 books - 16% AHEAD!
Series Challenge: 4/10 series - 40% AHEAD!
Netgalley Challenge: 1/12 books - 8% ON SCHEDULE!
Owlcrate Challenge: 1/12 books - 8%  ON SCHEDULE!

What are you planning on reading in February?

Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2020

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

  1. Lyssa Kay Adams - I fell in love with the Bromance Book Club series in 2020.
  2. Kevin Kwan - I binge read Crazy Rich Asians and also read Sex & Vanity in 2020. I prefer CRA.
  3. Beth O'Leary - The Flatshare has such a bland cover and it really took me by surprise.
  4. Emily Henry - I loved Beach Read so much and I'm looking forward to her 2021 release!
  5. Jay Coles - It took me forever to get around to reading Tyler Johnson Was Here. I wish I would have done so earlier. One part I really liked was that the mom was really present in the story.
  6. Brigid Kemmerer - I love fairy tale retellings and was pleasantly surprised by A Curse So Dark and Lonely. Really immersive reading experience.
  7. Rin Chupeco - I binge read The Bone Witch trilogy in 2020 and was 100% obsessed with it. Between The Bone Witch and Kendare Blake's Three Dark Crown series - I got super into YA fantasy once again.
  8. Jasmine Guillory - I have read all 5 of The Wedding Date books and they were just a nice, turn-your-brain-off read.
  9. Roshani Chokshi - I still haven't gotten around to reading the YA books, but I did read Aru Shah and it was really great.
  10. V.E. Schwab - I think this is probably the most surprising author on this list. I just now in 2020 got around to reading Schwab! I read the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue because everybody was doing it haha. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Schwab.

Top Ten-ish Books I Meant to Read In 2020 but Didn’t Get To

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

So I decided to not do a Top Ten because I wanted to see all the books that I had on TBRs throughout the year and then didn't read. In the beginning of the year, many of these books were on very short TBR lists and then towards the end of the year, my TBRs got 8 or 9 plus books long. I will say that I was reading a lot this year, a lot of the months I read 9 books. I'm just trash at sticking to a TBR. I'm going to try and get around to reading all of these books in 2021 at some point. Fingers crossed. Three of them are on my January TBR, so I hope that I do actually read those this month!
