Top Ten Popular Books that Lived Up to the Hype

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. More information here.

I'm always way late on hyped up books, but I feel like I'm finally reading some popular books in a timely manner! So here we go :)

  1. My Lady Jane by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows: I don't read a lot of historical fiction because I find history to be boring most times. The hype for this book was super strong and people said it was so so funny. I purchased the Owlcrate box this was in (it was an extra box in their store) and devoured it.
  2. Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: I read Upside because I got it in an Owlcrate and loved it. I knew I had to get my hands on Simon asap because the hype around it was pretty steady (even before the movie was announced). It's just an all-around great book. I especially loved that family existed in Simon's life. Because YA for so many years only had family to drive a plot-point (usually in a negative way).
  3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne: Honestly, this was hyped up almost solely by Chelsea of chelseadollingreads and when I participated in the Contemporaryathon, I bought this book (I believe for the recommended read prompt). It was everything I love about smutty adult reads. Everything.
  4. Daughter of the Pirate King by Trisha Levenseller: I got this in an Owlcrate and let it sit for months on my shelf before picking it up, albeit a little hesitantly. I wasn't really drawn to it at all. I fell in LOVE with it. One of my favorite reads so far this year!
  5. Renegades by Marissa Meyer: I have loved both of Meyer's books I have read and so I imagined I would love this one as well, but I put it off because I felt like it got a lot of hype at first and then it died off. But it had recently picked back up again and I listened to the audiobook and it was amazing. I cannot wait for the sequel.
  6. The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon: Everything, Everything was a one-sitting type of book for me and everyone said that TSIAS was amazing and tackled some heavy topics. I LOVED it. It was another really quick read from Yoon.
  7. Scythe by Neal Shusterman: Nick purchased this book for me for my birthday last September and I hadn't even heard of it. Then all of a sudden, the hype hit. Everyone loved it. Nick read it and loved it. Then I read it and absolutely loved it. It's my favorite read of 2018 to date and I don't think anything will beat it. It's definitely in my top 5 books of all-time.
  8. Warcross by Marie Lu: I think this hype was more that the book was coming out moreso than people who had read it. It was atmospheric and awesome.
  9. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: I expect to see this on many many lists today. There is no explanation needed if you have read it :)
  10. Saga, Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughn: I just read this a month ago and WOW! The artwork is stunning and the story is crazy good. I definitely see why it's popular and hyped!
